As a professional with over 20 years of extensive experience in international development, Ms Mariam has served in various non-profit organizations in different capacities to manage programs in Bangladesh, Canada, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan. Over the years, she has gained comprehensive knowledge and skills in development strategies and policy changes, advocacy and profile raising, program designing and implementation, donor interaction, program management, training and capacity building, monitoring and evaluation. She has analytical skills to conduct social researches and intensive experience in proposal writing, budget preparation, grant management, high-quality reporting and financial analysis. Working in multi-cultural environments in different organizations and with various partners/stakeholders has given her strong organizational skills to lead team of senior managers, manage complex projects and provide management oversight. Her experience has given her in-depth experience in Strategic Leadership, Grant management, off-site monitoring, donor liaison, donor reporting, Development planning, Program Management and Coordination, Team Management and Training and Human Resources. Ms Mariam has obtained her LL.M from Dhaka University, and Post- Graduate Diploma in International Law and Development from Institute of Social Science, The Netherlands and Diploma in International Development Studies from University of Oslo.
Ms Mariam was the Regional Director, Sightsavers from 2010 to 2014, responsible for South Asia region including Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Prior to that she was the Technical Adviser with Save the Children Canada, working out of the Toronto Head Office and accountable for program guidance and grant management of child rights, youth, disaster mitigation, and health programs in Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, India and Pakistan. From 2001 to 2004, she was an Associate with Monower Associates, a leading HR consulting house in Bangladesh. Between 1993 and 2001, she worked as Senior Program Manager with International Development Enterprises (IDE), Program Coordinator with IMPACT Foundation, Policy Coordinator with RDRS.
